The Cisco Unified Wireless Network (CUWN) Training Course will offer the attendee exposure to concepts of Controller firmware and the Cisco Wireless Control System (WCS) software releases.
The course will last for five days with Cisco learning credits of 33 to be awarded for successful completion of the course. It should be noted that there are required prerequisites an attendee must have completed in order to attend this course. The prerequisites are; Understanding of Radio Frequency (RF) theory and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations and experience installing Cisco Autonomous APs (Access Points).

The focus of this course is intended to deliver Cisco employees, Cisco customers, Resellers, and Channel Partners who hold interest in the Cisco Unified Wireless Network Solution.

This course is an advanced level with focus on controllers and lightweight access points. Regarding these topics the student will learn aspects of installation, design, configuration and how to maintain a wireless network for existing and add on wireless Local Area Networks applying the new Cisco Unified Wireless Network solution. The coursework involves live labs with hands on interaction with the cover controller firmware software release. The labs will also give direct experience with the Cisco Wireless Control System software release.

Pertinent topics in the course work involve Key enterprise Wide Local Area Network (WLAN) solutions, challenges with regard to implementation and utilization of Cisco products for network support. The proper understanding of the Cisco Wireless Network hardware for making optimal selection and installation with regard to use and to site requirements. So that the network is protected and performance optimization is at a premium level, the use of the Cisco Unified Wireless Network interface to manage settings on WLANs and maintain appropriate QoS will be covered in the course. For management of security features to prevent WLAN breaches, methods of configuration and implementation of the central Cisco Unified Wireless Network will be explained.

Security is the most important theme in much of the course work so the use of troubleshooting and most recommended methodology will be revealed. To isolate types of equipment failure and security threats, various tools will be demonstrated for gathering and assessing system data. For robust system integrity, methods to administer the use of the Cisco WCS for Cisco Unified Wireless Network equipment performance real time evaluation will be demonstrated. This will include simulations of system updates, system back up, and system restoration scenarios. Keeping track of users within a Cisco Unified Wireless Network environment is a function of the Cisco WCS location tracking features along with the Cisco Location Server. How to configure and use these features will be a part of the hands on lab as well.

When class starts focus will be on the Enterprise WLAN Solutions principles. Display of the hardware and review of the WLAN Controller protocol and terminology will be covered. Part two will focus on hardware installation of the Cisco Unified Wireless Network with regards to how to configure the controller setup, the controller settings, the link aggregation, access point operational modes and the proper 802.11 Protocols with regard to performance optimization and the auto radio frequency.

As the course unfolds the all important administration of the Cisco Unified Wireless Network will be explained with regard to roaming, configuring QoS and General Network Communications, WLAN administration, Access Points Association and finding a controller. It may seem redundant; however, the WLAN security will be kept in the forefront by covering the proper configuration of Guest Access on the WLAN Controller, Security configuration and configuring the WLAN for 802.1X authentication support.

All systems need to be maintained and fixed so a good portion of the course will cover effective WLAN troubleshooting, methods on how to gather the data and traffic for the VLAN. The all important management and policies of the WLAN along with Device code and effective Configuration Management are part of maintenance.
A breakdown of the vital Cisco Wireless Control System will be given beginning with an overview of the Cisco Wireless Control System. The steps for the Cisco WCS Installation and Administration will be detailed; the Cisco WCS Configuration Tab will be described along with the Monitor Tab. The value and use of the Cisco WCS Reports, Mapping and Planning will be elaborated on completely. Cisco WCS has great Guest Access Features to monitor and locate guest users. The methodology to use the CISCO WCS Navigator for Enterprise Management will be imparted thoroughly.

Before beginning the hands on session in the labs the all important Cisco Location Tracking will be demonstrated and displayed including coverage of the Cisco WCS location tracking. On the WCS the there is the implementation of the Context Aware Services as well as the importance of the wIPS on operational status on the Cisco WCS.

The chance to actually use these systems will be given in full during the lab portion of the course. Labs will cover the Cisco Wireless Local Area Network Controller setup. The next lab will involve the Controller Web Interface. Labs on Configuration of Layer 3 various Authentication processes, WPA2 Encryption, Local EAP-based EAP-FAST Authentication and WPA as well as LAN Enterprise Management with Cisco WCS.

Those who wish to have a strong data networking background are responsible for their enterprise network planning, management and deployment with Wide Local Area Networks. This course work is ideal for optimum deployment of Cisco WCS lightweight controllers and access points.

Testimonials:

"The instructor was excellent, his teaching style and re-enforcing the topics with examples worked well . It  has been the best training I have ever had including location of the hotel to the training room, the food service (very good too) that saved many hours a day and the equipment was perfect for the tasks required of it.  Getting out of class at 10:30pm and being able to walk over to the room and starting the studying at 10:45pm was such a big help. Was it easy? Not at all, it took discipline before the class (on-line sessions) 45+ hours and during the class. I went to bed at 1am or later each night and was up a going by 5:30am every day.  Was I tired each day? Yeah but I signed up for a Boot Camp not a Skillpath Happy Hour. I got to catch up on my sleep Saturday PM AFTER I had the two exams passed!!  Also the staff were exceptional;  responsive and handled everything right away."
