Introduction to functions and data features of the MSTP dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) Release 9.0. The course covers theoretical concepts and usage, how to use successfully deploy data over DWDM in a network, and the type of MSTP cards to use based on the network. The course through lectures and hands-on lab work guarantee successful that participants would be able to deploy data over a DWDM network.
Number of Days:
The program is four (4) days in length.
Required Prerequisites:
Participants should have completed OMSTPB - Cisco ONS 15454 Multiservice Transport Platform (MSTP) Basic Training v9.2 that teaches them the basic skills required to deploy a Multiservice Transport Platform (MSTP) network with DWDM topologies.
They must be familiar with node turn-up, fiber-cleaning techniques, fiber test requirements, and how to deploy linear and ring dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) topologies.
They must be familiar with amplifier cards, multiplexer and demultiplexer cards, transponder cards, the M2, M6 and M12 shelves and how they are used in amplifier, terminal, and ROADM node configurations.
Participants must be familiar with the Cisco TransportPlanner and how it is used to design a DWDM network and output used to configure the Cisco ONS MSTP Node. Familiarity with protected and unprotected DWDM circuits, linear, WSS-based ring and SMR-based topologies is needed.
Who Should Attend:
Networking professionals including designers, network operations center personnel, implementation staff, and support staff involved with deployment, operations, and maintenance of the system.
Detailed Course Description:
The course begins with an introduction of the basic functions and data features of Cisco's Multiservice Transport Platform (MSTP) dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) Release 9.0.
Participants will understand why the platform is established as the benchmark to provide solutions for regional dense wavelength division and metropolitan multiplexing.
Participants will understand why Cisco's provisioning platform networking technologies are the proven solutions for a DWDM network in terms of fast, simple, and intelligent delivery capability. It greatly reduces the capital outlay needed to set up the system and also reduces the operational costs.
Participants will learn how the metropolitan network installed at a remote or client-specified location would get support thereby creating the opportunity to offer for network carriers or providers to introduce fresh tariffs.
There is no need to have additional equipment or conversion stages in order to deliver a broad variety of services thereby increasing the capabilities of Enterprise customers.
It is capable of providing support to a wide range of services based on established standards on one platform, while the DWDM network supplements the system by offering the transparent levels required for the service to function properly.
Multiservice aggregation can be achieved by the Cisco solution. It also supports wavelength transport and aggregation when they are combined on one platform with DWDM that works smartly integrating and optimizing the costs involved in the network for any service mix.
Details of What Participants Will Learn:
• Important theoretical principles and concepts of data encapsulation and how they can be used on the platform.
• Practical knowledge and expertise needed to successfully manage and transport data over DWDM in participant-specific networks.
• Configuration of the 2.5GB and ten (10) GB data cards, 2.5GB transponder, and Gigabit Ethernet and ten (10) Gigabit Ethernet crossponders with G.709 options.
• Some of the main benefits and features of Cisco's data cards.
• Some of the main benefits and capabilities of the platform that is used to drive data over DWDM
• Set options in Ethernet for transporting Layer 1 data using Gigabit Ethernet and ten (10) GB Ethernet crossponder cards.
• Set options for Ethernet to transport protected and unprotected data ring circuits over Layer 2 with the help of Gigabit Ethernet and ten (10) GB Ethernet crossponder cards.
• Methods used in configuring the ten (10) GB 2.5GB data cards.
• Methods of provisioning incoming Class of Service (CoS) marking using ports, a customer's VLAN and by shaping incoming traffic.
• Methods used in configuring the different cards used, isolating optical issues and creating data circuits in the network with the help of data options using ADM-10G time division multiplexing.
• Learn about theory related to general queuing and quality of service and how it can be implemented in the Gigabit Ethernet and ten (10) GB Ethernet crossponder cards.
Details of Practical Lab Sessions
Participants would be put through seven hands-on lab sessions that would allow them to successfully configure Cisco Transport Control, Gigabit Ethernet and 10GB Ethernet crossponders, 2.5 Gigabit and 10GB data cards, 2.5GB transponders, and 10GBAdd-Drop Multiplexer (ADM-10G).
Participants would a review process to understand how the Ethernet, forward error correction, G.7041 Generic Framing Protocol (GFP), and G.709 encapsulation are actually done in conjunction with the lab tests.
Labs
1. Participants would hands-on configure Cisco transport controller (CTC) and display data cards in the ring network.
2. Participants would observe and configure data transportation with the help of 2.5GB transponders.
3. Participants would observe and configure data transport with the help of 2.5GB and 10G DME cards.
4. Participants would observe and configure data transport with the help of 10GE and GE-XP Cards at layer 1.
5. Participants would observe and enable Y-cable protection for Gigabit Ethernet within the crossponder cards.
Demonstration that has been included - Rate restriction
6. Participants would observe and configure data transport with the help of 10GE and GE-XP Cards within the layer 2 Ring
Demonstration that has been included: Protection switching and actual functioning of QoS
7. Participants would observe and configure ADM-10G circuits for data
The course is a combination of lectures with labs that are hands-on and materials to guarantee participants can successfully deploy an ONS 15454 MSTP data over DWDM network.

Testimonials:
"The instructor was excellent, his teaching style and re-enforcing the topics with examples worked well . It has been the best training I have ever had including location of the hotel to the training room, the food service (very good too) that saved many hours a day and the equipment was perfect for the tasks required of it. Getting out of class at 10:30pm and being able to walk over to the room and starting the studying at 10:45pm was such a big help. Was it easy? Not at all, it took discipline before the class (on-line sessions) 45+ hours and during the class. I went to bed at 1am or later each night and was up a going by 5:30am every day. Was I tired each day? Yeah but I signed up for a Boot Camp not a Skillpath Happy Hour. I got to catch up on my sleep Saturday PM AFTER I had the two exams passed!! Also the staff were exceptional; responsive and handled everything right away."
