In this highly intense course, students will be given the skills necessary to install, configure and maintain a Multiservice Transport Platform (MSTP) network, including techniques on how to properly clean optical fiber, the requirements for fiber testing, and how to turn up a MSTP node. Students will also be taught how to properly install and configure linear and ring dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) topologies.
The course will cover the various system cards including, amplifier cards, multiplexer and demultiplexer cards, and transponder cards. An overview of the system shelves including the M12, M6, and M2 shelves will be covered and students will learn how each shelf is used in amplifier, terminal, and ROADM node configurations. The course will cover the use of the Cisco TransportPlanner, showing students how they will design a DWDM network and use the associated output to configure the Cisco ONS MSTP Node. In this MSTP basic training course, students will also cover linear, protected and unprotected DWDM circuits, WSS-based ring and SMR-based network topologies.

The complete course will be taught over a four day period.
