Cisco Routing and Switching: SWITCH - Implementing Cisco IP Switched Networks

viewpricing

In Cisco Routing and Switching: the student will cover VLANS and Inter-VLAN routing, Spanning tree, WLANs, and Security features. The student will obtain a clear understanding of switch management in a campus environment. Lab exercises teach students to not only verify the complex enterprise, but to plan and configure switching solutions for the campus as well.

Number of days:
Cisco Routing and Switching: SWITCH- Implementing Cisco IP Switched Networks v1.0 will be in session over the course of five days.

Required Prerequisites:
To enroll a student must be CCNA certified or have extensive knowledge of IP. Extensive knowledge refers to the ability to subnet on non-octal boundaries, configuration of serial interface, knowledge of configuring IP standard access list, as well as extended access list, vector routing protocol. Must be able to interpret routing tables.

Who Should Attend:
Professionals with one year or more of work experience in Cisco should attend to further their education. Professionals who wish to advance thier existing skills and work either independently or as support for switched based solutions. Technical support employees and help desk technicians who will be required to trouble shoot complex switch based network solutions. Channel partners, customers, and employees should also attend.

Detailed Course Description:
The SWITCH Course is one of the three components of CCNP and is used to help prepare for complete CCNP certification. Students will learn to analyze the campus network design and accommodate voice and video in campus networks. They will learn to implement VLANs and Integrate WLANs in the campus network. They will learn to implement spanning tree, inter-VLAN routing, and security features. Student will also learn implementation of high-avalibility technologies through techniques used for multilayer switches in the campus environment. Students will essentially learn management of complex enterprise campus switching solutions from analyzing to implementation.

Course Outline:
Module 1.Analyzing Campus Network Designs
The introductory section covers planning and analyzing:
Cisco SONA, Benefits of the enterprise campus architecture, function of the core layer, impact of traffic types on the network infrastructure, Cisco Lifecycle Services and Network Implementation, PPDIOO lifecycle approach, PPDIOO implementation planning

Create and execute an implementation and verification plan in a VLAN network with layer 2 Ether Channel links and load balancing among port in the Ether Channel.

Module 3:Implementing Spanning Tree
Section three introduces Spanning Tree and includes:
STP (Spanning Tree Protocol) enhancements, STP standards and operations, implement and configure PVRST+ and MSTP, RSTP port roles, verify RSTP configurations, STP stability mechanisms, protect and optimize the operation of STP, configuration of BPDU Guard BPDU Filter, Root Guard and Loop Guard, configuration of UDLD to detect and shut down unidirectional links

Module 4. Implementing Inter-VLAN Routing
Section four will include lessons on:
Routing Between VLANs, Configure and verify inter-VLAN routing in a Layer 2 topology using an external router, a switch SVI, or a switch-routed interface, Configure both a switch and router to accommodate inter-VLAN packet transfer using an external router, Layer 3 SVI,Commands used to configure an SVI, A routed port on a multilayer switch,Commands used to configure a routed port on a multilayer switch,Configure Layer 3 EtherChannel links,Configure inter-VLAN routing on a multilayer switch,Configure,DHCP services on a Layer 3 switch,Deploying Multilayer Switching with Cisco Express

Module 5:Implementing a Highly Available Network
Training section five covers high-availability and includes:
High Availability Uses, requirements, benefits, and performance expectations, Resiliency for high availability, Design the network for optimal redundancy, Implementing High Availability, Use Cisco StackWise technology on access switches, Evaluate the impact of too little redundancy, Assess the impact of uplink failure, Implementing Network Monitoring, Configure IP SLA technology

Module 6:Implementing Layer 3
This discusses Layer three High-availability and covers:
Configuring Layer 3 Redundancy with HSRP
Routing issues, Router redundancy process,Configure HSRP operations,Fine-tune and troubleshoot HSRP,Configuring Layer 3 Redundancy with VRRP and GLBP, VRRP operations process

Module 7:Minimizing Service Loss and Data Theft in a Campus Network.
Sections in module seven deal exclusively with security issues. Topics in the module include:
switch Security Issues, Switch and Layer 2 security as a subset of an overall network security plan, How a rogue device gains unauthorized access to a network, Categorize switch attack types and list mitigation options, How a MAC flooding attack overflows a CAM Campus, Backbone Layer table

Module 8: Accommodating Voice and video in Campus Networks
Training module eight deals with voice and video in campus networks:
Integrating and Verifying VoIP in a Campus Infrastructure, Plan for VoIP requirements, Voice VLANs,Configure and Verify Voice VLANs, Plan PoE requirements and configure PoE, Provide additional services required by VoIP devices

Module 9:Integrating Wireless LANS into a Campus Network
This section deal with the importance of Wireless LANs in the campus network:
Assessing the Impact of WLANs on Campus Networks,WLAN implementations, Compare WLAN solutions, Assess traffic flow and impact on the campus LAN of an autonomous AP configuration and a controller-based configuration

The course employs the use of 15 labs in order to demonstrate the ability of the student and display components working with a hands-on approach.

Testimonials:

"The instructor was excellent, his teaching style and re-enforcing the topics with examples worked well . It  has been the best training I have ever had including location of the hotel to the training room, the food service (very good too) that saved many hours a day and the equipment was perfect for the tasks required of it.  Getting out of class at 10:30pm and being able to walk over to the room and starting the studying at 10:45pm was such a big help. Was it easy? Not at all, it took discipline before the class (on-line sessions) 45+ hours and during the class. I went to bed at 1am or later each night and was up a going by 5:30am every day.  Was I tired each day? Yeah but I signed up for a Boot Camp not a Skillpath Happy Hour. I got to catch up on my sleep Saturday PM AFTER I had the two exams passed!!  Also the staff were exceptional;  responsive and handled everything right away."
