Details on the RHCSA exam:

• The Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) exam consists of one section lasting up to 2.5 hours.
• The certification exam is performance-based, meaning that candidates must perform tasks on a live system, rather than answering questions about how one might perform those tasks.
• The hands-on nature of this exam make hands-on experience a critical facet of preparation.
• RHCE candidates must have earned their RHCSA certification to be eligible to become an RHCE.
• An RHCE exam consists of 1 section lasting up to 2 hours.
• The RHCE certification exam is performance-based, meaning that candidates must perform tasks on a live system, rather than answering questions about how one might perform those tasks.

The RHCSA / RHCE program provides intensive training on the following important subject areas:

• Understand and use essential tools for handling files, directories, command-line environments, and documentation.

• Operate running systems, including booting into different run levels, identifying processes, starting and stopping virtual machines, and controlling services.

• Configure local storage using partitions and logical volumes.
• Create and configure file systems and file system attributes, such as permissions, encryption, access control lists, and network file systems.

• Deploy, configure, and maintain systems, including software installation, update, and core services

• Manage users and groups, including use of a centralized directory for authentication.

• Manage security, including basic firewall and SELinux configuration

An RHCE is able to perform the following tasks (in addition to the above tasks associated with RHCSA):

• Setting kernel runtime parameters
• Building simple RPMs
• Configuring an iSCSI initiator
• Producing and delivering reports on system utilization
• Using shell scripting to automate system maintenance tasks
• Configuring system logging, including remote logging
• Configuring a system to provide networking services, including HTTP/HTTPS, FTP, NFS, SMB, SMTP, SSH, and NTP
