Program Offered By Mt. Sierra College and Intense School
LOS ANGELES -- Mt. Sierra College announced Monday it is partnering with Intense School, a provider of accelerated computer certification programs, to offer an ethical computer hacker "boot camp" on June 21-25.
"In the age of digital attacks, Mt. Sierra College is offering top training used by members of the FBI and top security departments to remain one step ahead of cyber intruders," said Vaughn Hartunian, Mt. Sierra's chairman, president and CEO.
"The mantra of the program is to get into the mindset of the hacker and understand their methods in effort to remain proactive rather than reactive to attacks," he said.
Research by the FBI and Computer Security Institute found that half of all corporate or government computer networks have been hacked, with many not even aware they fell victim, Hartunian said.
Throughout the five-day program, participants study a variety of security system techniques hackers use to enter and threaten networks, including password hacking, vulnerability scanning and social engineering -- the act of deception to gain sensitive information from unsuspecting employees. The Monrovia-based private college bills it as "the only authorized program in the world" leading to an "Ethical Hacker Certification" for IT professionals.
"With our graduates entering top corporate and government agencies, it's a natural progression to offer training on not just how to build the system, but also how to protect it," Hartunian said.
All business professionals are invited to participate in the program, he said. Copyright 2004 by NBC4.tv. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
